As well as receiving Reiki in person, there is the option of receiving what is called Distance Reiki or Absentee Reiki

So, what is it?

Distance Reiki is where healing is provided without the need for the recipient to be in the same room as the practitioner.   Not being in the same room as each other does not make distance Reiki any less effective or powerful.

In fact, Distance Reiki is fast becoming the preferred way of healing.  Many people do not find it that easy to physically attend a session for a number of reasons.  Travelling to the appointment itself can cause stress, as well as the prospect of meeting someone new.  Some people cannot leave their home or do not feel comfortable being in someone’s else’s home or office.  Such instances, and others, can actually put up a barrier to receiving energy healing.

There are also many positives to receiving Reiki healing by distance: you can stay in your PJs, you don’t have to leave your house or talk to anyone if you don’t want to, and it creates more flexibility appointment wise.  Distance Reiki is convenient, effective and very often cheaper.

How does it work though?

When a Reiki Practitioner is attuned to the Second Degree (Reiki II), they are taught certain symbols which, when used in a session, will enhance the flow of Reiki through the practitioner to the recipient.   One of those symbols is the Distance Symbol.  When used by the practitioner, this symbol allows the healing energy to be sent across time and space.  It therefore does not matter how near or far the practitioner and recipient are from each other.  We are all connected, we are all made up of energy and therefore the distance symbol is a tool to enable the practitioner to connect or link with the energy field of the recipient.  There are a number of ways that this is done; using a photo, personal details and an address or a surrogate (either the practitioner herself or occasionally a doll or teddy bear!).

What happens in a session then?

Generally, an appointment is still scheduled to allow the recipient to be in a position to receive the healing.  Sending healing while someone is driving for example, has the potential to be very dangerous!  So lying down or sitting in your favourite chair would be a good place to be.   Details will be requested in the same way as if you were attending in person and possibly also a photo.

The practitioner then performs the session at the agreed time.  Distance reiki sessions are generally shorter, being around 15  – 20 minutes, but it really depends on what comes up during the sessions.   A report would then be provided to the recipient.

Can it be used for anything else?

The distance symbol can also be sent across time and has been used to help clear past blockages (either in your own past or a past life) or to help with a future event.  It can also be used to clear a room or house without actually having to be there.
